A Brief History of Variable Voltage Batteries

During the beginning few years of the electronic cigarette industry, the only available batteries were constant voltage ones. The voltage output of the batteries was set to work optimally with the atomizer coil used with that particular setup. However, as technology advanced and new products were released to the market, vapers were afforded several options to select from. Among these choices were various clearomizers with a range of atomizer resistances. In order to use assorted clearomizers and cartomizers with varying resistances, the voltage output of the battery needed to be change accordingly. As a result, manufacturers developed batteries with built-in regulators that allow the user to adjust the voltage output of the battery.

The record is unclear as to which company invented the first variable voltage battery for electronic cigarettes. However, Joyetech is certainly the first brand to popularize it and make it a commercial hit. The Joyetech eGo-C Twist Variable Voltage Battery was a breakthrough device when it was first released. It allowed vapers to use a variety of clearomizers and atomizer resistances with the same battery. This capability set the groundwork for the host of new products that has followed since.
