Scientists confirmed: the dog can understand what we say!

The dog does have language barrier, but why they seem to be able to read our language, mood? People who kept a dog know that they will pay especial attention to the tone and rhythm which we speak in, so as to determine what we would like to express, but aside from the tone, whether can the dog really understand the meaning of our discourse? in the recent "contemporary biology" magazine, psychologists have finally confirmed this subjective saying that the dog will understand what we say.

Dog's listening experiment

In order to understand the operation of the dog's brain, University of Sussex's graduate student Ratcliffe Victoria did the experiment on 250 dogs. She put a trumpet at the left and right side of each dog, and then simultaneously played the "come on" command.

At the beginning her played instructions were also with clear pronunciation, meaning and emotion, but later she began to change orders, some were removed intonation, some reserved tone but with burnt voice to replace the meaningful words, she found if the dog heard meaningful instruction, the has about 80% of the head to the right, and when they heard the sounds which retain only the indication of mood and tone but were meaningless, most of them will turn head to the left.

The dog's left brain processing semantics, right brain dealing with emotional hint

For the results of the experiment, Andics Attila, a neurobiologist of researchers at the Hungarian comparative animal behavior research group, said it was a surprising finding that dogs were able to distinguish between meaningful and meaningless languages, and their brains were divided into two processing zones, just opposite to the direction the head turns.

Dogs deal with language in the similar way as the human brain

This is similar as the human brain processes language, just the human brain is more complex, divided into several regions to deal with language, such as semantics, and speaker dependent cues, and the emotional hint.

Express emotion to left ear and give instructions to right ear

In addition to prove that dog can gradually learn some words of human, the finding also promotes the communication of human and dog. If you want to allow them to understand your emotions, speak toward its left ear, when you need them to clearly understand your instructions, then give your order toward the right ear, this action will do some help.
